Fett und Knochen Haufen (DA/AD) is neither a painting nor a sculpture nor an object in that sense. Fett und Knochen Haufen (DA/AD) is a narrative - or, even better, a collection of an infintite number of narratives. Think about a story, similar to the plot of a film. F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) encloses multitudes of plots and sub-plots, and therefore is more of a world or universe. Perhaps F.U.K.H (DA/AD) can best be imagined as Middle-Earth or a similar fantasy world.
F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) is not a parallel world, but our world
It is important to note, however, that F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) is hardly "only" a fantasy world or a parallel world. It is a reflection of our actual world we are currently living in. This is important because the elements from F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) have an effect in this world - by emerging and coming into existence through the process of art-making, they direct our attention to art and the playful and artistic way of dealing with reality.
The role of the artist here is that of the "obstetrician" - he/she/it helps elements from F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) to come into the world, just like an obstetrician helps a baby into the world.
What does this mean for the creative process?
If you string F U K H D A A D together and pronounce it “English,” it sounds like “Fuck that.” It is precisely this attitude that is important when making art in the spirit of F.U.K.H. (DA/AD). It is an internalized truth that the artist follows when he/she/it is making and approaching art.
For example:
As an "obstetrician" in the service of art and F.U.K.H. (DA/AD), the artist is yielding exclusively to the commands of F.U.K.H. (DA/AD). He/she/it is obliged to do the job with love and to listen - because the works dictate how they should look like, what they need, when they are finished. What's more: Experience has shown that you should forge the iron while it is hot. As quickly as the idea, the vision, comes, as quickly the work should be made.
F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) forges hot irons
Of course, this is not always possible. Especially when, in order to create a work, you have to learn new techniques (cue Augmented Reality) or work with materials that you have never worked with before. In that case, it might take a little longer until the work is out in the world. But that's okay. It's important to keep your love and joy and not let frustration arise. Because this frustration will end up being a part of the work, too.
What does this mean for the individual works?
In the field of music, for example, working with the F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) spirit means: Not "too much" time should pass from the idea to the finished, published piece of music. Sometimes writing, recording and publishing a piece of music only takes 60 minutes, sometimes less. Other mediums, such as air drying clay, require a slower pace. But almost all the works you can see and listen to here share a common a “rough” and “coarse” surface or quality.
Following the credo of F.U.K.H. (DA/AD), they resemble rough and quick renditions, quickly carved into heavy stone rather than polished marble, let's say. The pieces of music respectively are not over-produced and polished either. More often than not, they consist of elements eclectically “thrown together” ( i.e. samples, field recordings, voice notes). Often, "what is right" is substituted by "what is there".
No “red thread” – no problem
The “red thread” that often plays a role in the marketing of art is the first concept to be parted ways with. The artist cannot put on blinders and allow his/her/its vision to be artificially narrowed right from the start. Just as life presents us with countless beautiful variations, F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) also draws from the complete spectrum art has to offer. This even breaks down to the choice of colors: Which colors are we using? All of them!
Unlearning what obstructs and stands in the way of art
Naturally, the above mentioned idea of total freedom in art is a horror for all those who want to neatly categorize, portionalize and sell art to a market that is used to having everything put in the proverbial drawers. Furthermore, it is a challenge for all artists who have been fed this way of thinking all their lives as well. It is time to “unlearn” - but it's gonna be okay.
Trust, begin, finish – and chill out
If you want to come along for the F.U.K.H. (DA/AD) ride - feel very warmly welcomed. I invite you to begin, shape, finish, and then move on. Remember to switch off and chill out, too. Spend time with your loved ones. And then begin again.
Do it for art. Do it for F.U.K.H. (DA/AD).
